2005 - 2009
"It's a great
experience when you work with Chris Harrington!" I've worked with
Chris, off and on, since the Fall of 2005...two full projects and an
addition coming up this summer, 2009. I met Chris through Moosehead
Cedar Log Homes, who think very highly of him and refer many of
their prospective customers to him.
I've been
going to Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, Maine since I was 13 and wanted
to build a guest cabin on the back lot there , for 'overflow'--grown
kids returning from their adventures, friends, guests of all sorts.
Chris was
unbelievable...the nicest contractor I've ever dealt
with...calm...low key...just incredible. They built this cabin right
through the winter, they didn't let weather get in the way. Rain or
snow, Chris and his men were up on the roof and deck, shoveling so
they could continue working. The crew is great...professional...and
Chris was right there working with them...swinging a hammer and
supervising. He does it all. And he sends emails with updates and
pictures regularly, to let me know how things are progressing and
what they look like.
Some of the
subcontractors worked directly for me and Chris 'babysat' them too,
making sure they were doing good and timely work while I was off
working in Massachusetts. The site was always clean and tidy.
Chris offered
great communication....lots of creative ideas for doing things
specifically for my needs...and he didn't tack on extra charges for
making the changes or adjusting along the way. He always gave me a
very fair price and then went above and beyond to give great value.
He would even negotiate with me to get the price where I needed it
to be, yet he never cut any corners. The contracts were detailed and
specific, so you knew just what you had agreed to...no hidden costs.
The second
cabin that he built for me was a Moosehead design (they actually
named it after him because he helped with the evolution of the
design!) that we adjusted and then built through L. C. Andrews in
Rangeley, Maine. It looks like a real log cabin, but the studded
interior wall structure allowed the subcontractors to do their work
more easily inside the building.
This cabin was
also a great success...we added an apartment above the garage that
was erected at the same time. Chris was flexible and great at
problem-solving. And again he supervised some of my subcontractors
and didn't charge for the extra work.
He also
follows through on his projects. When we had a problem with the roof
icing one winter, he drove 5 hours to inspect it and got the
insulation subcontractor out to make the necessary changes.
He's
impressive. And that's why I've hired him for a third project--this
time we're going to take the 10' x 30' front porch of the Rangeley
cabin and enclose it, install state-of-the-art air moving
technology, and make it into a cigar room. I'm looking forward to
another partnership with Chris Harrington....and my wife and I are
looking forward to my having a cigar room!

2005
In 2004, I embarked on the very rewarding and enjoyable mission of
building a summer home on Moosehead Lake in northern Maine with the
incomparable help and patience of Chris Harrington. Having
purchased the land 4 years earlier and having spent all of those
years designing and dreaming about the future dwelling, my husband
and I wanted to savor every moment of the building process....the
resulting home was truly a masterpiece.
I
set out to find a builder who was truly a craftsman. I needed
someone who understood not only the art of log home building but
also how to communicate with their client. I needed someone I
could afford. Most importantly, given my geographic distance from
the project and my lack of construction knowledge, I needed someone
I could trust.
When we met with Chris, I could see this was
the option I had waited for.
Chris began the project that summer. For the
duration, he would email frequently to show us how things were
looking, to explain problems and look for answers, or just to show
us a great picture of a fox that was trying to steal their
dinners. There wasn’t a decision that would need to be made that
he wouldn’t fully explain. He would be sure I understood the
problem, the options, the impact, and
the cost.
In terms of the work site, Chris and his crew
were probably the neatest contractors I have ever seen. There was
never construction waste lying around or tucked in unexpected
areas. I would arrive for unscheduled visits and find the area was
being treated with respect and care.
By the summer of 2005, we had a beautiful and
beautifully crafted home. Our costs were just where we expected
them to be. Chris created a building experience that I know
could not have been matched by any other builder. He cared about
the building but more importantly he genuinely cared about us.
Sincerely,
Theresa Lamkin

Dear Chris,
I wanted to take the time to document how thoroughly pleased we were
with your craftsmanship, skill, and attention to detail. Selecting
a contractor to build our log home was a daunting task, and we were
fortunate to find you!
Perhaps the best
compliment I can give you is you built the house as if it were your
own. No hidden costs, no cut corners, simply hard work that met all
our expectations. I would be more than happy to recommend your
services to family, friends or strangers. Thanks again for making
our building experience a positive one.
Regards,
Gregg Genis

To Whom It May Concern:
This is to inform you that we have known
Chris Harrington for more than 8 years. We are pleased to say that
in these years all business deals we have conducted with his
Company, Harrington Construction & Development, have been highly
satisfactory.
They have constructed log homes and
commercial buildings for our company in Greenville, Maine as well as
in Vermont, and New Hampshire. Their willingness to travel out of
State is a big advantage to our Company, and our customers.
Most importantly, our Customers say it all.
They have always been very happy with their completed projects and
they recommend him with utmost confidence.
Thank you.

Dear Chris,
I want you to know what a difference having
you as the manager of my project here in Boothbay has made. As you
know, I've worked with two other GCs on this project, over the past
two years. Having found you, it's a little like the story of the
Three Bears. The first two didn't fit at all; the third is JUST
RIGHT.
Your attention to detail, your integrity in
communication, your 'can do' attitude and the commitment to reach
resolution, no matter what the challenge, has been unbeatable. Your
collaborative leadership with subcontractors makes their work more
efficient and pleasant and makes a huge difference for me!
Your technological know-how--use of email
and cell phone and digital camera-- has allowed me to feel that I've
been part of the process, even when I'm 5 hours away. And the fact
that you send me pictures of progress, regularly, is amazing!
Perhaps most of all, you inspire your crew
to do quality work, in a timely fashion, keeping within the budget
and resulting in an excellent outcome. You inspire trust in client
and workman alike.
I am SO grateful to you for bringing your
knowledge and expertise to complete the building of my Inn and
Retreat Center. Should you want to show any prospective client the
property, please feel free to bring them around!
Warmest of wishes, Melissa Thornton
